'Counter Audio System': We all know the routine with our music system--the setup includes placing speakers in the room to produce the sounds you will hear.
And of course we all know that in such a setup there is at least one place--THE location to put yourself when the music is playing, because all of the sounds converge on that location. It just sounds great there!
Instead, consider a counter-proposal: headphones, of a type especially made to cause all sounds to actualy float around your ears. I mean you do not have to (and absolutely should not anyway) turn them up to hear the sounds, and you are always in THE location, because you are wearing it! You may consider 'I've heard headphones before...' Yes, absolutely. But I mention electrostatics for a reason: the projection from them is worth mentioning. Easily worth hearing...
It works. When in use if there should be any sound in the room you will hear it; the headphones are not turned up so loud as to prevent this. The projected sounds have their own position--you can concentrate on whatever you want to and distinguish it from the other sounds. It's all good.
But it is a different way to approach audio. If you ever get the chance, try out a set of electrostatic headphones...
